School's out and so is the sun, finally! I honestly never thought it was going to warm up this spring. Even though some days are still cooler, the sun is more in tense this time of year and so are those UV rays.
If you're still wondering how to choose the best sunscreen you can check out my blog post from last summer. I talk about the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreens and give you a few options plus a link to research your own brands.
Even with the best sunscreen, there are still those days when I forget to put it on or, more likely, I just don't think it will happen to me. That's the worst! The other day I was gardening for most of the day. I wore my hat and put some sunscreen on my arms so I was certain I was safe. Sadly, I got a nice pink burn on my back where my shirt creeps up when I bend over. That sneaky sun!
Fortunately there are some great homeopathic remedies you can use for sunburn:
Causticum - Burns that are a bit deeper and hot than Calendula. The burns will be prone to blister and oozing. This remedy can also be used on older burns that haven't healed well.
Cantharis vesicatoria - Horribly painful burns that are better from cold applications. The minute you remove the cold pack, the pain is intolerable. Serious burns - second and third degree. If you give this remedy soon enough, it can prevent blistering.
Urtica urens - Intense burning and stinging pain. Intense itching often accompanys the burn.
Along with taking these remedies internally, there are a few recommendations for topical applications in addition.
Calendula officinalis - This remedy is best used topically and that's usually how you'll find it at the co-op. Look for gels with Calendula officinalis in them. Gels have the added benefit of having a cooling effect so they make a great pair.
Aloe vera - As always, aloe vera has an incredible soothing effect on the skin after a sunburn. This is best used on unbroken skin.
I wish you a peaceful summer filled with lots of joy and new experiences. I am always here to support and care for you. Homeopathy is soothing for sunburns, poison ivy, injuries, allergies and most of whatever else it is that impacts you. I want to help you recover quickly so you can get back to enjoying this beautiful season.
